Teaching Experience and Philosophy

I first began teaching the viola while I was a high school student in Bloomington, Illinois.  Over the years, teaching has become an important part of my career. I have experience in academia, as well as experience as a private instructor. While I was a member of the Kansas City Symphony, I taught viola and chamber music at the University of Kansas, as well as teaching private students in my home.  My students have gone on to professional careers in music and gone to study at major universities and conservatories.

As a teacher, I tailor my methods to suit each student's needs and goals.  Each week I give students an assignment of scales, etudes, exercises and repertoire.  I strive to meet the student at their ability level while challenging them to improve and fulfill their potential.

If you are interested in studying with me, please contact me at pkramp@umd.edu. I teach mostly advanced students at the University of Maryland as well as advanced private students in my home.
